Things I Don't Like

they had to fire up the coal fired power station

Its not the only thing that might be getting 'fired up' before long. Those new fangled electric trains might have to be shunted in to the sidings to make way for proper coal fired steam trains !!

Its a good thing we have petrol and diesel cars, just think what it would be like if someone had suggested electric cars would be a good idea 🤣 🤣 🤣

What we need is a few Russian deigned, Chinese built nuclear power stations then we could all sleep soundly in our beds

Yes, it all seems nuts. Nitrogen is virtually the most abundant element but we can't find an easy way to extract it. CO2 is apparently at its highest level in history but we can't easily get at that either so have to manufacture it for industrial use.

Meanwhile we were so short of power lately that they had to fire up the coal fired power station at West Burton which will have created a bit more CO2. We'll be even shorter of power now that one of the Channel interconnectors to France is out of commission for quite some time. Get your winter woolies ready!😃😃

I use nitrogen as part of my daily job in Chemical processing; I wasn't aware of shortages on that one; the cost and demand for Acetone, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol has quadruple'ed since the beginning of the pandemic, also a number of mobile chemical solutions which I won't waste time naming; can't be obtained anywhere,

were also set for a winter of power outages; which is a nightmare for my job; had three outages this week; two in the same night while I was on site; have to spend an hour restarting everything after the on-site generators kick in,

Our current government cancelled a contract to import a huge set-up of kerosene generators in preparation for this winter saying the environmental impact would be too much; trying to blame it on the people themselves;

I'm really not happy with it, as it affects my job every time there's an outage, having to restart everything manually compressors, vacuum pumps, refrigeration units, steam generator's, agitators, condenser water pumps, transfer pumps etc.

You mean I could relive my boyhood, spending many a happy hour watching steam trains, supping a bottle of Tizer? Sounds good to me!😃

Is it wrong to to be contemplating putting the dampeners on a BBQ then party in the garden to the rear of ours. They are getting very noisey singing and shouting . I have asked them to turn it down a bit as step daughter needs to sleep before work tommorow. Me and partner can sleep in.

When I mean dampeners, I was thinking of hosepipe and strong jet of water at them😠😠

Getting a text during break time that the Police have erected a large blue tent in the local park and cordoned off two adjoining roads only 500m from our front door.

Unfortunately nothing confirmed as of yet but they don't put up those kinda things for nowt.

Polish guy aged 22 found dead on the footpath just yards down the road from me last march,

They had a garden gazebo over the footpath and garden wall but you could see underneath, could see his shoes and shorts,

Seems CCTV showed he was drunk and fell backwards on to the footpath knocked on conches and chocked on vomit,

Terrible sad and only a young chap, was huge news around here as nothing really ever happens aside from the odd knife throw in a domestic; one woman killed her husband when he began to beat her in the driveway for returning home late from a family wedding, she went in to the kitchen came back out and straight in with the knife; now I heard it was a long time coming and well deserved seems she had numerous incidents aswell as broken bones in the past; he died on the driveway before ambulance got there, a bit like Django unchained:

aside from that nothing much ever happens.

Last time I saw that was in St Helens, it was a rape.

It's that time of year again when I try to find a unique, postable gift for my Great Aunt's birthday...  She'll be 89 next month!  I can't even imagine the hell of having to endure 89 years of existence on the planet!  Looking for something other than flowers or chocolates ideally...any ideas?  I did consider a fruit basket but the prices seem to have shot up for those...sure they used to be about a tenner last time I bought one for my Nan, now they're £35! 😮

"Thank you so much for the lovely cheese wire, I'm thrilled with it, it slices though cheddar wonderfully!"

"This garden dibber is great, it's so effortless penetrating the ground with the vibrate function switched on!"

Came to the end of my cheap fixed rate for gas and elec in June, went to variable rate gas and elec which was more expensive but still cheaper than fixing. Then caught wind of the prices going up and went to a new  fixed rate last week , but  it's nearly double the cost of the last fixed .

Today checked the fixed rates for changing today and it's gone up another 30% . Glad I did it last week. Still going to be a  shock this winter with higher bills. I can see it already when looking at smart meter now. ☹️

Makes me thankful I am on oil fired central heating, though TBH, most people in NI are on oil as the 'troubles' prevented any significant gas infrastructure to be built!

Just done my fixed rate 1 month ago with a big firm for 2 years so just saved a bit.

Feel sorry for these who have to have pay meters or young families with kids just about pulling through and now this on top.

We're the same, just paid our second DD. Hopefully, Octopus won't get into difficulty 🤞

Plus losing the temporary £20 a week uplift on UC just as we head into winter...  Not to mention the price of food going up as well.

Were currently with Bulb until next Tuesday after that I've no idea tbh but after watching the ML programme lastnight we might be investing in candles......

That's assuming you can find the petrol to put in the car to run the engine....

Last night on hearing the 'news', I filled my car up, and 3 x jerry cans. I have learned my lesson from toilet rolls last year LOL 🤣 (NI doesn't even have any petrol issue at all, we're still on E5 too LOL)

Sounds like I'm off to NI to fill up the car. Unless... how much do you charge for shipping? 🙂

Not 1 garage shut by me,fill up tomorrow,i have half in so ok.

Absolute chaos in our town today. Cars were blocking the main roads trying to get fuel.

Still, at least we haven't got a toilet roll rush yet. Unlike in some parts of usa due partly to driver shortage. Not just the UK then. 😜😜
