I prefer the Bah Humbug method and put up 1 string of tinsel.

I'd be happy without that 1 string of tinsel.

Like I've got nothing better to do on my weekend off work. Had the "can you look at my car" 4 times this weekend. 2 non starters and 2 with suspect punctures.

Now I've got a bad back to top it off. Still, I've not had any sick days since COVID back in march. Mmm.

That's one more than in our household.

Don't like trying to find suitable Xmas cards online without ridiculous postage fees and nauseating interior verses.    Suggestions welcome...

Don't buy or post any cards and pretend the cards got lost in the post . Quite plausible.

My partner went to Birmingham shopping today and to meet up with a friend. The train she was due to catch this morning was cancelled when she got to train station. Had to wait an hour for the next one. Just had a text the train home has been cancelled. Not looking forward to her getting home later. She going to be in a foul mood!! 🤬🤬🤬

Don't know about cards but a short but sweet verse...

Money's short,

Time's are hard,

Here's your ####### Christmas card!

Good idea in theory, but it's local family ones that'll be hand collected/exchanged unfortunately.

Can't you say you got COVID or something so they won't come round or expect you?

Bet that excuse will see a lot of action over Xmas!

I can't go anywhere anyway.  It's literally a doorstep exchange.

Feels ridiculous this year, considering I haven't seen or spoken to them all year (due to health issues on both sides) and now am obligated to exchange cards wishing each other joy and happiness for the festive season.

Can you really be bothered to open your front door Tom. After all why should you care they’re only making the effort to see you🤔

It's not really not caring, I'm more than happy to buy a useful gift.  But sending cards between two housebound individuals with the pretense of enjoying life doesn't sit well with me at all.

That's what letterboxes are for 👍

Why don't you buy some of these and hand them out when your relatives arrive on your door step. Then every year after you shouldn't be disturbed.

I've definitely not explained this well.  One relative will collect the cards from mine and then distribute them to the others locally.  They'll do the same for the other housebound relative.  Neither of us can get to the post box!*

*Technically, I can sometimes walk to a very small post box near mine, but the slot isn't big enough for 'family' type cards, and old people get offended if a card is too small or doesn't have their title on it.

Why not use one ov the online card outlets like moonpig etc, then you could have it delivered direct to the relevant household.

Because they're expensive with excessive postage fees and soppy interior verses.  That's the sort of place I'm trying to avoid with the initial post in this thread lol.  Used to use Card Factory when I could get out, like 50-80p per card, but even theirs are expensive online.

Plus, I don't think direct posting would go down well.  I would assume they'll also be offended if the card isn't hand written.

See you point a tad clearer Tom. Not sure why people would be offended by not recieving a hand written card but saying that I can't recall the last time I actually sent a card let alone a hand written one.

Does your partner sort cards from both of you or are you just not obligated to send any?

They don't really mean anything to me as a recipient, so I don't understand all the etiquette around them either.  As I say, I'm happy to buy gifts that can be used.

Not sure if you saw the news about Bob Dylan using an autopen for autographs lately?  It's more personal to actually sign something rather than letting a computer churn it out, just assumed it'd be the same with cards.  (Not that I'm suggesting my autograph is worth as much as his lol).

I'm happy to receive any card or phone call, just shows that someone has thought about me even for a split second. I don't expect goodies or a fuss for my birthday just an acknowledgement that am in someones thoughts. It's nice, especially when you have few close family and even fewer close friends. All the neighbours i interact with on my row get a card which i dont expect a return as were all singles and approaching the box end of life.

Never heard that before. "box end of life"

Suppose that's one way to look at it. I'm up a street that is majority of " box end of life" neighbours. Hopefully I'm not one of those yet.

End of life box transporters. Saving the planet to the very end 😉

it was better than the original in the "soon to be dead waiting room" hahahahahahaha

My partner kept telling me " there's no pockets in shrouds" that was until I spent every penny of my savings on a car.🤣🤣🤣🤣.
