So pulled the map file today and then proceeded to remove the turbo before it started raining. It's getting there. Just a shame I won't be able to drive it once its done [emoji23]279728f92bd6832053c15a840e227213.jpg0bb3fbbd616c1608fd12e413c1d5c310.jpg

Got the gtd1244vz fitted today and the car started on the old map to check for oil leaks. All seems ok. Just got to send the map away to hdi tuning now. Also waiting on a battery charger and a hack saw to cut a pip to fit the 90 degree gap you see. I've tri d keeping this as OEM looking as possible. I couldn't find an OEM air intake which fits in the gap while in lockdown. So I'll be scrap yard diving once this is over to hopefully get rid of the cone filter. For anyone doing this conversion. The gtd turbo moves the "cat" slightly up, meaning that the OEM mounts on the bottom don't fit anymore. Something that I'll also have to fab up once this is done. The oil drain needed some tweaking also to fit where I wanted it and was happy with the gap between the manifold and the drain. Also heat wrapped the pipe a little as well. I maintained the OEM oil breather by having the section off the original air intake track from the Mondeo. However if you look really closely you can see that it's held on the bike brake calliper brackets currently as it has to be rotated to fit this way. I will of course be making brackets for this when I'm back up and running. Over all I think that's about it. Any questions shoot and I'll answer best I can. 8f85f8bdf9bf739e3e744e6de7aae036.jpg

Map has been sent away and got emailed back this afternoon. Steve at hdi tuning has given me two maps. A limited torque and full torque. Just incase my clutch slips. Hopefully this should be up and running by end of the weekend. Not that I can drive it anywhere but at least something is happening

It's on and she shifts. Well down the road and back. Can't go anywhere else. She makes lovely turbo noises though. 5fd4050b0ea71fdd131d6253abd4bc43.jpg

Where'd you get the air filter from? I'm wondering now if I can keep my car and get it mapped. Id only get it mapped with no supporting mods though. Would you recommend a postal map or custom map for this situation?

Well mine needs a clutch in. Apparently the standard will hold the map. How long for is yet to be seen. The map for mine was done by hdi tuning online. He sent two maps. Limited torque and full torque. His got a full guide on what you need on his website. It's not a cheap cheap upgrade. But I got it in under £500 all in. Except the clutch which I'm debating what to get currently. Also don't if you need links to sensors or bits I've used just ask. I try to buy straight from supplier rather than from a secondary as it's cheaper.

Air filter was a generic eBay one. Cost about £15.

So an update on the clutch situation. I've got two choices. I can go full paddle and just deal with it or I can go for an oe clutch and run limited torque. Which is still 290nm. I don't want to ruin this cars drivability. I do a lot of milage and I like having oe parts on this. It's not a full race car. It's just something I drive and occasionally track.

Limited torque?  Pathetic!

Is there not a stronger standard clutch that could be fitted instead of going full paddle?  290Nm isn't all that much tbh, that's roughly what I had in the Focus, though I appreciated the Fiesta is a lighter car.

I had to post the Focus PCM to Steve when I had that mapped as he said the EDC16's don't take OBD mapping well...is there something different with the Kess software?  I was using MPPS at time.  Didn't quite risk the Galletto on it though it was fine on the EDC15 HDi's and PD's lol.  Haven't had a car mapped since the Focus though, so tech has probably moved on...that must've been nearly 5 years ago!

There's a few clutch options out there. The issue is even for an organic one it's not even garenteed to 290nms. What's the ***** point. 330nms is full torque on these turbos. The gt15 on your focus was slow compared to these things. They come.on instantly and it's actually quite insane how fast they pick up and the noise they make. Kess V2 can safely do obd mapping on edc16. Takes about 15 mins to read and about 5 to write.

This is the only clutch rated to my torque. Its also the only one that actually has a modified pressure plate causing a heavier pedal.

Good point, I had a Mk3 8v after the Mk2 and the difference in boost was so noticeable, felt just as quick as the Mk2 despite being totally standard.  No idea what torque they run but it felt quicker than 115bhp.  I thought the improved noise was just because of the metal resonator it had...guess not then haha!  Sadly the standard mapping for anything other than 'foot to the floor' was horrendous on them, mapped for emissions with no thought about driveability...

The Golf sounds pretty good around 2k rpm too, again I'm sure that must be caused by a resonator?  Nearly 2 years ownership and I don't even know what they turbo they run on the 140 CR's?  Seem to remember it's a KKK though?  Have to go 170 to get a proper turbo!

I still dont understand why people like golfs. Theyre super boring. Even the gtds. no idea on the turbos. Theyre crappy to get to. All i know is i do no end of egr valves on them

Not cheap then...does look decent though.  And I haven't seen any complaints with CG recently?  I know they had a few issues with paddles a while back.

Does the pedal weight change much with a hydraulic system?

They seem to have got better, I spoke to a custom clutch company that a few of the "old forum" members used after contacting them. Who have never had an issue with them. I spoke to them and the first thing he said was. We can make a clutch to hold that. You don't want us to know if it's a daily driver. It will ruin the drive and you'll have to bed it back in occasionally as it's not being driven hard all the time.

No-one specifically likes Golfs, but they're the perfect all rounder when compared with other mid sized hatches.  Sure there are better looking cars, better sounding cars, more practical cars, better specced cars...but for the whole package, VW have managed to find a good balance annoyingly.  I said I'd never buy another the Mk4 GT TDI money pit back in 2012...and I probably wouldn't have done if the Mk3 Focus hadn't been such a horrific failure...honestly can't think of one redeeming feature on the Mk3s!

So when it came to quickly needing a replacement for the Mk3 with a smooth ride and £30 tax, I didn't want another Mk3 Focus, PSA cars around 2010 are all crap, Vauxhalls are horrible, that only left VAG stuff...Audi's ride too firm, SEATs feel cheap inside, Skoda's..well I'm not at that old yet!  That only left Golfs...  Will be changing car later this year though, hopefully I'll find something a little more interesting this time!

I'm surprised 330Nm is such an ask for a clutch, there are loads of cars running that as standard nowadays.  Have you asked CG what theirs would be like on a daily driver?

Steve at hdi tuning said an OEM clutch "should" handle it. For how long is unknown.

If it was mine, I'd give the full fat map a go on a standard clutch tbh…  Only stick the limited torque on if it started slipping.  Just my opinion though!
