I do like getting the all clear from the doctor further to a cancer scare.  Still got lots of problems in my life but at least now I've (hopefully) got a lot of time to deal with them.

  • I do like finally finishing a model kit I first started 5 and a half years ago.  It's a very special model that i was supposed to finish by the time the aircraft took her final flights across the UK

I honestly would love a Chinese or fish and chips takeaway but can't risk getting takeaway food. Don't know who's making the food and if they are well.

I did make this vegan 'pulled pork' burger. Brioche bun, mayo, burger, cheese, pickled cucumber and lettuce and ketchup 😋🍔

The virus gets killed by heat, so takeaways should be ok as long as the chef doesn't cough all over it while bagging it up...which I'd kinda hope they don't anyway!

Every bit of food you buy has had the potential for contamination at some point in the manufacturing process though.  As a contamination OCD sufferer, this is one of the things that massively restricts what I can eat.  Really annoys me that some foods go through all the mechanical processes and are then ruined by a person adding a 'final touch'.    I can't eat cherry bakewells any more after seeing an actual person adds the cherry!

I’m making home made McDonalds tonight. It won’t be the same as the real thing but it keeps it interesting. Particularly for the kids as I’ve done a cardboard template for a Happy Meal box that my eldest will paint etc. Making Freezer chicken nuggets and chips a bit more exciting for them

I like buying a new battery today, will be getting fitted on Thursday so will hopefully have a working car again!

Drove the north coast 500 last year but wouldn’t do that again for sure.

Why wouldn't you do it again?
I've heard about the driving roads in Scotland for years but only recently heard of the NC500, it looks amazing on YouTube,
Some of the roads look sketchy but I've watched motorhomes get around it, looks like a driver & photographers dream.
Pondering taking a week off to do it and sleeping in the ST Estate.

Not wishing to tempt fate, but the Golf started first time this morning, that's 7 days without driving this time!  It's unlikely go any longer than that, even in lockdown, so hopefully the battery will be fine now.

Also didn't judder anywhere near as bad as last Tuesday!  Just the normal light judder in the usual place.  Not sure if it's the warmer weather that helped...  It did attempt a DPF regen on the 2 mile trip to Tesco though!  Needless to say it failed...  And then failed another on the way home...  Fortunately I had to go to another shop to get the bits Tesco didn't have so managed to complete the regen that time!

Do you accept vouchers? 😂

My car started fine also. Just have to remember to switch off the dash cam when I get home to not draw battery power. i hardly drive but my car probably has been driven the most during lock down 😂

On a good note I have started to take care of myself appearance wise. I think the braces have helped in this where my both front teeth have a small gap now between the other teeth next to them which is a lot of improvement in just 4 months with them on. Dad ordered a beard trimmer from argos and will be available to collect on Friday so hopefully I can trim my beard and shape it 😊. Dad found an old electric shaver he used to cut my hair back when I was little and used it to cut his hair with 😂. This trimmer he bought I've read can cut you hair too. Only worry I have is I hope they have the model trimmer I want not the older model as they show 2 model numbers on one listing

It was amazing, and yes motorhomes get round it ok, but unfortunately the roads and infrastructure just can’t sustain the level of traffic. Particularly motorhome traffic.

I wouldn’t mind sleeping In the back of my ST estate either. When I did the NC500 I slept in the back of my Ford Ranger most nights.

As with most things...the place is great...it's all the other people that are the problem!

A mate of mine did the NC500 last year in an old Range Rover with a roof tent.

Don’t get me wrong, the scenery is spectacular! Just remove all the tourists and you’ve really got something!

I was slightly concerned about the Passat when I left it 8 days before driving it on Sunday, but it started fine.  The battery was replaced by myself last January but I never trust those cars so I wouldn't have been surprised if it developed a parasitic drain, alas not thankfully.  8 days is probably the longest it will get left for this lock down anyway as I don't want to risk leaving it longer, and asking on the VW forum what the general battery life of a B6 Passat when parked is was useless.  I may as well have asked a brick wall

Thank goodness Ford has a better forum community that's all I can say...

I’ve come to learn that most other forums are just horrible places, full of trolls and arguments. I’m on a business forum which is great, and on here but I’ve tried others and just can’t hang around.

Recently joined piston heads and just found it to be a fire fight in every thread. Not welcoming at all. Same with another industry one I was in for a while.

It is really sad as I enjoy being a member of online forums (for a hermit like me it's the only socialising I do!) but as you say the majority are just not worth the hassle.  I am only a member of the VW one (not saying which in case any members are on here!) because the B6 Passat has so many faults and they are helpful when it comes to those, but they have no people skills at all.

I like to think we have a good & friendly club here.

We do get the odd frank exchange of opinions but they die down pretty quickly.

Only when members go really off the rails do we step in and get tough.

I think We can all take pride in the fact that our club is work / child friendly and filled with members that genuinely enjoy helping others.

I tried a couple of Facebook groups ( not into Facebook as such) and wow!!! The nastiness that goes on there. Not my cuppa tea!

Even the one car group got a bit nasty at one point. I backed right off and don't contribute much at all anymore. Just have the occasional look when I'm bored. There loss with my ford knowledge.

This is one of only 2 forums I participate in. Other is called the dibb. It's for Florida holiday freaks like me.

Always have  this forum open on my tablet and phone and check posts as I sit and watch the TV. Yeah I know before you say it!!!!! Sad! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Living in an area that is, in normal years, inundated with tourists, I sympathise with all the locals esp on the West coast side of the NC500. People hiring big camper vans who normally drive small city cars on big city roads confronting farmers etc and not understanding the etiquette of driving on narrow winding roads.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to do the West side sometime, but I think I would feel too much like a tourist! 😄

I've done the East side part more times than I care to mention so feel like a bit of a change.

Pic is of one of the most challenging corners on the east side run. Currently being altered to make it safer. I have personally been stuck behind artics on that bend twice in recent years and I can't imagine many HGV drivers will miss it.

Not my pic.

Must admit I'm enjoying driving around without battling with the droves of caravans and overloaded cars that usually jam up the South West at this time of year.
My heart goes out to the many businesses that rely on the tourist surges for their livelihood but it is somewhat nice being able to get around the county without getting stuck in jams.
Air is cleaner too which is always good.
Also enjoying that crime is down 50% pretty much across the board apart from domestics which surprisingly are about on par with normal trends.
Mightily surprised that DV offences haven'y shot up seeing as families are cooped up and under each others feet 24/7.

That's not challenging. This is challenging esp when your driving a transit van. The map doesn't do it justice.

The west coast bit is terrible, as is every single track section!

On the way up and over at Applecross I had a motorhome right up my tail pipe going up the hill, and could just about fit in the passing places behind me and was making it extremely difficult. I got so annoyed at him riding my back bumper that when someone came down the other way I pulled into a passing place and didn’t leave space for him behind me, so he had to reverse all way back down the hill to the next passing place 😂

Thats'a Moray...

Do like my vunerable elderly  neighbour 2 doors down has had his Tesco shopping delivered. 9 large bags of shopping. Did I forget to say he had 2 Iceland deliveries in the last 5 days also. There's only 2 of them. I should be ok if I get short of anything!!

He must be the hoarder of the road. No one else has had any deliveries down our road and most are elderly.
