16" alloys are usually heavier than 16" steels due to the aesthetic designs.  If an alloy was the same design as a steel it'd be lighter.

The Citroen C5 came with alloys in the shape of steels in the early 2000's, common swap for 'sleeper' 205s and 306s etc.  They weighed less than 5Kg without tyres.  Equivalent aesthetic alloys were almost double that.

I do like getting the all clear from the doctor further to a cancer scare.  Still got lots of problems in my life but at least now I've (hopefully) got a lot of time to deal with them.

  • I do like finally finishing a model kit I first started 5 and a half years ago.  It's a very special model that i was supposed to finish by the time the aircraft took her final flights across the UK

I do like 'jumping the queue' for petrol today. 3 or 4 cars waiting for fuel in one lane but no-one in the other because the pump was on the 'wrong' side. Pull up to pump, pull nozzle around car, fill up, pay and #@£& off! 👍

Also like the lineup outside our local Ford dealer, 4 Pumas waiting for September 1st and their new owners. 3 ST-lines and an ST.

I can't understand people who 'queue' when there are perfectly acceptable pumps available on the wrong side. All pumps have the ability to stretch round to the other side of a car (just reel the darn hose out!), but just like numerous other functions cars offer, (like the off switch for rear fog lights!), many drivers haven't a clue!

Despite the fact that lots of pumps nowadays have a helpful notice saying "extra long hose" they still do it!. Grrrr....😠😠

Makes you wonder though when they own an EV, will they wait 3 hours for the car in front to charge rather than using the vacant charger adjacent even though it's the 'wrong' side LOL 🤣

As far back as the early 1960's Ford had actually solved this problem with the Ford Corsair which had the filler in the middle behind the number plate 👍

No, they'll probably try putting petrol in like those videos @unofix posted on the petrol car ban thread the other day!😃😃

Yes, quite a few cars (my Mk 1 Cortina for one) had the filler on the back panel of the boot, not necessarily in the middle, but they were a lot easier to fill from either side than fillers in the rear side panel. Can't do it with a hatchback, I supppose!

40 odd years ago, ie before internet etc, mum bought a second hand Simca! One Sunday morning not long after she bought it I went to fill it up for her. I spent the best part of an hour trying to find the filler and eventually found it behind the rear number plate 🙄

One of my all time favourite car mods! The Mercedes I owned had it's LPG filler located under the rear bumper, I loved the stealth of that as most simply have an ugly cheap black plastic cap drilled into the rear wing panel, destroying the look of often £50,000+ cars!

i do like making a few improvements to my newly purchased second hand \Hyundai ix20

those whom know me; will know that i went heavily on the focus in terms of modification from 2010-2016 where i then moved on to home improvements and hadn't touched a single thing on a car since 2016,

picked up the ix20 last Thursday, ordered a few items on Thursday straight after purchase which arrived Friday, and today was ideal weather to get out there on the driveway like old times and make a few enhancements.

I've taken some photos of the progress and plan to create a small progress thread on the relevant forum, i say small as unlike any other project I've done; this time I've given myself a limit of 1,700GBP i need to achieve my list of desires within that total figure,

I don't currently hold that amount to be throwing at the car just yet, progress will be on a monthly basis and the project will end when either the list has been completed or the spend limit has been hit.

I've signed up to a Hyundai forum but there doesn't seem to be much activity, and there's not even a section for the ix20 model 😃

I could document it here in the General chat section but I'm not sure many people would be interested as its not a ford,

overall; it felt good to be doing something to a car today as well as comparing some features to the focus, the ix20 is growing on me, it wasn't my target choice of vehicle; i had a budget to stick to when purchasing and I wanted good value for money, had to be petrol with mileage as low as possible and the best reliability possible all with a budget of 6,000 pounds narrowed things down a lot; but I'm liking it a lot more than I thought I would,

@BigLen not too long ago me and dad got a 2014 Peugeot 107 to replace the Citroen C1 we bought for my sister. A lot better condition plus is the fully specced allure model which includes AC, 5 spoke alloys and rear factory tinted windows. Actually would be happy driving that car but much prefer my faster good looking fiesta 😂

I lurk on n-cars.net where they seem quite helpful. No specific forums for '"normal" Hyundais of course but could be some helpful tips as to sources of bits etc.

Probably would be some interest on here in what you get up to with the ix20 - most of us will have had loads of different makes in our time and like reading modding stuff generally. I find your home improvement exploits very enjoyable as well, even though I'm unlikely to emulate most of them!😃

@zain611 @iantt @Eric Bloodaxe thanks very much guys,

I'll check out that forum you mentioned Eric as I will need some advice in the future to save myself some time sourcing specific cables to splice in to; because there's no Haynes manual for the ix20 unfortunately,

I'm changing some bulbs in it now, and I'll get a little thread started in the general chat section later on tonight and post a link for you guys,

Thanks 👍

What's "n" for ? Naff?

Nurburgring, apparently!

But (referring to your earlier post) autocorrect keeps altering that to "nurturing" every time I put it in!😃

Why is it called autocorrect anyway? What makes it think it knows better? Grr!😠😠

Which works until you take into account the "extra wide cars" these days. I find that on half the pumps I can't stretch the hose over the car to the fuel filler unless I park the car on top of the pump. Not sure the filling station would be happy if I tried that.

It also doesn't help when the Mondeo's fuel filler flap is on the passenger side, and every other car I've had for the past 15 years has had the flap on the driver side, so I keep pulling up on the wrong side.

Have a look at the 'pump' icon on your dash - most manufactures put the handle of the pump on the side that's reflective of where it is on the car...

It does - the little arrow on the fuel symbol points to the passenger side. But that would involve me remembering to look at the little icon to remind myself which side the filler is on... 🙂

The first post is now live guys, I'm going to get a coffee; then complete the second post showing the level of enhancement mod's up to date; only got it last Thursday & there's a few already complete,

Things I like ........ its been over a week since I've seen a post of someone whining on that their "Stop/Start" system isn't working ! 😀

I was surprised by my stop start a few days ago. I moved my car after being parked up all day. Must have gone no more than 50 metres and when I stopped , the stop start cut the engine out. Lol

If it helps, my Stop/Start isn't working at the moment.

I thought my newly purchased Hyundai ix20 had stop/start but im glad it doesn't,

As my ignition coil and alternator will last that bit longer,
