Things I Don't Like

Speaking of MOTs...... I don't like this! 😔

Screenshot_20211202-122818.png

Mine failed as well.  Handbrake mech on one of the rear calipers is totally inoperative.  Service brake still worked fine though.

Trouble is, the anxiety of just sending the car for MOT caused some particularly unpleasant digestive issues even before I got the result.  I couldn't face leaving it for diagnosis and don't think I can face having it taken for repair either.  Few years ago I'd have bought a used caliper and swapped it in an afternoon.  Couldn't even lift a wheel now. .  So replacing myself isn't possible.  Trying to work out the shortest time it could be repaired and passed in...which is probably me buying a caliper and asking them to replace just on the off chance that that is the only fault...  Don't suppose anyone here has access to TPS for genuine parts?  Refurbs and used parts can be hit & miss so with my situation I'd rather buy new.

Well that was a fun trip home. About two seconds after hitting an unseen pothole 10 minutes from home the TPMS warning goes off...

I pulled into a lay-by and got out to discover the tyre deflating through a pinch near the rim :ranting:

2 hours later the AA get me home on one of their universal spare wheels. I've now got TyresOnTheDrive coming tomorrow to replace a 2 year old PS4 for £120

It's all fixed now. With the tyre off, the fitter showed me how the rim protector on the PS4s had done it's job and protected the wheel from the impact (these were the XL PS4s). There was a rubber scuff next to where the impact was, and that's where the rim protector had hit the rim and split the bead. It all cleaned off though and the wheel was undamaged. I guess that's something to be thankful for.

Storm arwen took its toll on my fence/posts and large gate last week. Today had to pay someone to replace it all. Yesterday had to pay another trades person to clear out the house  guttering which had a nice green lawn protruding 6 inches high . I'm not one for climbing ladders that high. I did say just trim the grass level. 😅😅

So after that expense and having day off work to be here, my partner rang at 4.30pm to say her fiesta wouldn't start. I'm an hour away so she contacted aa. Up to 4 hour wait ! Lone female in a dark works carpark wasn't going to speed things up. I drove over to her and got car started. Faulty steering lock/barrel not allowing key to turn to start position. So that's another job and more expence. Oh and my car kept stalling at roundabouts/junctions. Going well.

Still, the joys of Xmas soon. 🤔🤔

@iantt I know what you mean, it never rains but it pours.

Just about got the latest room, a bathroom, finished renovating. Plumber installed the new radiator but struggled to get it to heat, turns out that the pump was on the way out! So that's a plumber, joiner and sparkie probably putting their bills in over the next couple of weeks! 🙄

Luckily step daughter's Peugeot is parked up as a spare car as she hasn't taken  her driving test yet. So I wait until weekend during daylight hours to fix the fiesta. Still my mondeo to diagnose the stalling and non start occasionally.

I don't like that our friend @StephenFord has been missing from the forum since 9:15AM Monday, it's just not like him to not check in at least a couple of times a day. I hope all is well and he's just out Christmas shopping 🙂

Damn Royalmail!!!

How do they get away with it.

You go online and pay for a service, in my case Royalmail 24 hour signed for

Royalmail take not 24 hours to deliver, but 55 hours

I phone and complain, which finishes up like a monty python sketch

"No sir its not 24 hour, we aim to deliver it in 24 hours"

So I reply by saying " Shouldn't you call it a might be 24 hour service"

And then you could have a cheaper service called we might might might possibly might deliver in 24 hours.

Then you could have a dearer service called we definitely might deliver in 24 hours service

I then told the Royalmail woman, "Sorry love, I'm going to have to go now, I'm off to B&Q for a tin of Black paint which might be grey!!

Pillocks!! 😞

Feel your pain.

Royalsnail as its aka..... it's only within 24hrs of their depot recieving the item you have purchased from elsewhere.

I tracked a purchase I bought from Manchester a few months ago.

It went as follows... Manchester - Leeds - Birmingham - Mansfield - Sheffield - Chesterfield - Delivered a week later bearing in mind we live less than 10 mins from Junction 30 M1 lmao.

The package must have passed that junction on at least 3 occasions.

.

The post here doesn't arrive before 2pm.  I've never had a 'guaranteed before 1pm' arrive on time...  They're not actually guaranteed at all, just that a large percentage of them manage that.

What a very kind post! Nothing more sinister than a pre Christmas break away to Donegal for a few days! Took much planning to ensure our 4 days away coincided with the most horrendous storm in a while (storm Barra), we got soaked to the skin twice, but luckily the hotel room had super efficient radiators to get us dry again LOL

Best purchase I made was a couple of cases of Lucozade Zero, hasn't been available in NI now for 6 months, and is my favourite tipple! Despite the appalling weather, having someone else to clean and cook for you is a real treat. Also, it really is nice to be missed... 😀

Missed who?

Don't like my partner getting a phone call off her daughter's boss ( work Xmas party ) saying her daughter is barely conscious /drunk, been sick and ambulance on its way!! It's only 9pm and the party didn't start until gone 7pm. . We then had to wait for ambulance crew to inform us when we could go to hospital and collect her as we not allowed in .

Waited until 12am then phone call to say ambulance still waiting in a queue outside a and e. Luckily dear daughter( not mine)  was sobering up and might as well collect from ambulance. . So 90 min round trip to a and e . Home to bed!!

Seen first hand the ambulances queued up outside a&e. Were 11 waiting!! Shocking.

Needless to say partners daughter has been spoken to extensively. 😠😠

Ah the joyless embarrassment of binge drinking.Thankfully I hardly drink alcohol these days and when I do it’s in moderation and enjoy it.

I've been teetotal all my life, yes, I know, unusual for an Irishman LOL Have never understood the 'drinking culture', but many do seem to derive enjoyment from it. Just wish more bars charged an appropriate price for soft drinks (like Wertherspoons). I was in a bar recently when they tried to charge £3.50 for a 250ml mixer bottle of diet Coke! So I elected to have a nice pint of tap water, with ice & lemon instead LOL

Not had any alcohol since end of September 😲

Now, that doesn't really reinforce your user name 🤣

Perhaps we should all have a username that reflects who we are?

I know, just tried it with Ian************, same result LOL

Goes to show great minds think alike. 😂😂😂

I do not like when a seagull tries to beat my car up! I was doing about 40Mph off a motorway slipway when the darn thing headed straight for me. The resounding 'thud' was enormous and I was convinced I had suffered glass/bodywork damage, but on examination - nothing. I'm afraid I can't say the same for the poor bird... Not only banned, but you'll have the indignity of having to hand back your Ford OC car sticker LOL 🤣
