Things I Don't Like

One of the biggest cons played on the UK motorist, was selling petrol in liters! No one batted an eyelid at petrol going to £1.10/liter, but that was the magic £5/gallon barrier! There would have been numerous raised eyebrows in true British style LOL (The French would have overthrown the government!)

To be fair the French tend to revolt quite often.

Don't like trying to print an A4 page of images and them coming out grainy and poor quality.  Using OpenOffice Writer (Poormans Word).  Can't use shiny photo-paper as needs to be folded to post.  Tried setting print quality to 600dpi but made no difference.  Any ideas?

I didn't know any of those still existed!

I'm essentially housebound now so don't have that option unfortunately.  I'm sure I've printed decent pictures with this printer before though, just can't remember how. 🤔

Unplug it. Put it on charge overnight. Adjust SOC "State Of Colour" ratio to 90/95% and it will be as good as new 😉

Just tried printing directly from the photos folder (right click & print) and got the same low quality result.  Looks like it is the printer at fault after all.

Tom, I have an Epson DX8400 bought back in 2007. It's used 'copy' cartridges since new and has never faltered once in ownership, still capable of printing standard documents, as well as colour rich photos. It does get a regular 'head clean' though which I'm sure you'll know how to do, maybe your printer just needs some gentle maintenance using the software provided with it?

Thanks Stephen.  The test sheet prints out fine.  Word documents print out fine.  It's not missing bits or adding off colour lines, it's literally just the image quality that's poor.  Can't understand it myself!

Just checked, my printer is specd at 5760 x 1440DPI in printing, though hardly cutting edge now at 15 years old LOL

Same specs as mine then!  Around 10 years old now I think.

Turns out it was largely down to the paper!  Dug through the stationery box this morning to find some gloss photo paper to try.  That's made a marked improvement!

Only trouble is, now I'll have to try and cut around the images to fit the envelope instead of folding the whole page.  With a permanent shake and reduced depth perception that should certainly be an interesting task!  (Sadly no time to wait for a mail order guillotine!)

Nearly a week without any don't like posts...that must be a record!

My Don't Like for today is trying to email eBay...is that now completely impossible?

Basically, I started a return a few weeks ago in the eBay system.  Item broken beyond repair yet they still sent me a postage label to return it.  (Which can only be sent from a PO so I had to wait until someone else could take it for me.). Item arrived a couple of days later, and proved with tracking info.  But the tracking hasn't gone into the eBay system, so it won't release the refund.  I've tried messaging the seller but had no response.  I've tried going through the 'ask eBay to step in' system but that's just sent me another returns label!!

TL:DR - The seller has received the broken return which I can prove through tracking.  I have not received a refund and appear totally unable to ask eBay to help with this!?

It wasn't an expensive item but now it's about the principal and knowing what to do if the same happens again in future.

Tom, emailing Ebay is a futile exercise in my experience. I had occasion to contact them last year over an issue, and for the life of me, can't remember how I managed to activate the correct menu, but I requested a call back, which happened in 10 minutes! The Ebay call center is based in Dublin so a bonus of being very easily understandable (or, maybe it's because I'm Irish LOL)

I can't use phones so needs to be text based.  I don't understand why an online company would have telephone contact but not email. 🤦‍♂️

Sorry for misleading you Tom, they do have email contact, but I found it futile. It took them 72 hours to respond, and you can't have a meaningful 'chat' with such a time delay. I hope this isn't offensive, but sometimes you can circumvent common contact protocols by admitting to some kind of disability. Companies hate being accused of biased against that and will usually be more amenable to use their common sense!

Sadly that seems to be true. I had an issue with my local Council some years back and was getting nowhere, until I mentioned my slight disability which produced a rapid and satisfactory response!

Do you have the email address or how to send email through their site?  I can't find any way of emailing them at all since all their new systems came in.

I don't mind admitting to disability nowadays, not at all offended by the suggestion and often do have to explain the situation.  Sadly most places (including health services!) just don't have the flexibility in their systems to make suitable adjustments though.

I always use to think that was such a futile exercise! It's not as if you can stock up your spare room with floor to ceiling toilet rolls! You only have your petrol tank to store, and to be honest, most of us, that's probably a weeks worth, you'll have to pony up more in days anyway. Still, as you say, the psychology of panic buying often escapes me...

Morrisons was busy , but that was probably due to the 7p off coupon . A whole £3.50 saving on a tank of fuel. Wow!!!! I so regretted not going to Morrisons to buy £40 of shopping first in there ***** shop. Tesco got my hard earnt( well no so hard earnt to be fair) money for my fuel yesterday. Only had 1 diesel pump working but that's all I needed. 😂😂

With respect to all you Morrison shoppers, I reckon you would fall into a group of where a £3.50 saving wouldn't upset your payment of the electric bill at all. Can't wait for Lidl to start selling petrol LOL
