Maps/Sat Nav issue after Sync 4 OTA Update

Featured Replies

I have had the exact problems described on this forum some of which started  my Focus was about 6 months old.

(a)    On the battery issue, the auto stop/start was the first thing to go and the situation gradually got worse until I was regularly receiving battery saver mode messages, the reversing “beeps”  went into basic mode the interior lights stopped working upon entering the vehicle, messages appeared about turning on the ignition even when it was already on and so on. All symptoms that others have experienced.
My first visit to the dealership was fruitless but I continued to pursue the matter through Ford Customer Relations who I must say have been excellent in monitoring progress on the matter (and the one described in (b) below) and keeping in contact with me.
I took the vehicle back to the dealership in early November 2024 and prepared a comprehensive briefing on the issues and handed it to them before they started work. Eventually a diagnostic test generated a message, “electric power weak”.  The battery was replaced under warranty and the BMS was reset.  Since then, everything has worked as it should but I am not getting too excited yet. The vehicle was about 6 months old before the problems started last time.

(b)    On the satnav freezes, I, like other people, experienced repeated freezes which seemed to start after a software update in December 2023. The system would freeze randomly whether or not a route was active and could be reset by using the buttons on the steering wheel or by changing screens a few times. As you would expect, this also affected the traffic sign recognition and the intelligent adaptive cruise control.
Again, my first visit to the dealership produced no result. They did update some software but it had no effect on the problem. On my second visit they “updated APIM module software” to the latest level. This work was covered under the warranty. Since then I have covered around 1000 miles and have not had any issues at all. I have used the satnav extensively and kept an eye on it when it is just tracking, The traffic sign recognition and cruise control work correctly.

I hope that the above helps! The software versions that I can see on screen are:
“Priority update 24.2.0.13” and
“Sync 4 software version 24145_Product”
If I should be looking for other software information, please let me know.

Update: The update (SYNC-24.2.013) has now been downloaded for 2 days. This morning I parked in my company car park. It wasn't ready yet. When I got into the car after work, I got a message that it had been installed. I didn't have to confirm anything. According to Sync, I have now installed version 24145 revision 1286.

Built in Feb 23, still stuck here

Car has LTE connection, WiFi connection and is connected to a battery charger.
Only update I ever received was 23-PU2001-PR-FX 2023.

Same here and mine is a April 23, so guess it's  something to do with the build date

Mine was built (I think) Dec 2023, delivered Jan 20th 2024 and mine has had the update.

I don't know why some cars around the beginning or 2023 are not receiving the update unless it has to do with the hardware that was build into these cars at the time.

Mine is an early 23 car and hasn't had an update since late 23, just after I bought it in the September. I had a new sync module fitted last Jan when it was serviced, due to a one off fault with the charging system. It's going in again for a service in a few weeks so I will see if anything is updated this time.

I have finally had the update successfully install on mine; April 2023 build and May 2023 delivery. I think it's either luck at this point or still related to battery charge levels.

I'm a bit more optimistic now that an update will arrive soon for my car, if not then it's back to ford customer service.

After the update I started again to have low battery (since the update process consumes a lot). I was planning to buy the Bosch C40-Li charger, which is compatible with EFB batteries like the one on my Focus. Any thoughts? Does anyone have another one?

I replaced mine 7 Months ago with a Yuasa YBX7096B battery that cost £97 and have never had the low battery warning since.

your carplay after this update is okei guys? for me lag and delay

Funny enough, although the update fixed the main issues, there were introduced some new issues, hope someone could maybe see if they have it só that Ford could have a fix maybe

Sometimes the climatization bars dont work, i click on the temperature but the bar seems thats stays on the back of the rest of the screen (turming off and on the car seems to resolve temporarly the issue)

On the phone calls tab of the intrument cluster, when, for example, on "All Calls" menu, when scrollimg down to the last item and scrollimg again down to go to the first item, the texto changes to some Chineses/asian One instead of my language (This could be related to only certain countries or languages).

Still not sure about this One as it can still not being available, but it seems that Alexa (In Portugal) is not present.

Hi there! I haven't had any issues with my battery that I'm aware of, but, could some of those problems be due to the glovebox?

I don´t know if that's another problem only my car has, but the light won't go off, never, even with the car parked and closed.

I noticed this one day at night, and realize the engine's extra power and the Auto Start-Stop weren't working as long as they should. I told the dealer, but it only lasted 2 days working. Now I've made it myself so the light is always off and these "problems" are gone.

Does this ring a bell?

You are right! My car does the same. I recorded a video with my phone inside the glovebox and after closing it the light does not shut down. The button is not pressed down enough to shut it down, so it is a design failure, very surprising.

This is what is probably draining the battery.

I have investigated a little bit (a few google searches) and I found that this is a very old problem of the Focus that never got fixed! My Focus is a 2023.25 model, but this already happened in 2010: https://www.focusstoc.com/threads/glove-box-light-constantly-on.72871/

There is a very good youtube video explaining the problem:

My car had the battery replaced after just 11 months. I think this was the problem.

That's It, Ford doesn't know how to design gloveboxes. My dad's 2006 Focus had the same problem, even the plastic surrounding the light burnt a little, but I could just had been bad luck. Now we know...

Apart from the word 'Rear' disappearing from the Sync 4 screen after the update to Sync 24.2.0.13 I have also noticed that whilst I have 5 Radio Preset Pages set if say using the Preset Stations on Page 3 (where I have the UK radio speech stations, LBC, Talk etc) after a few minutes the Screen keeps returning to the first Preset Page (where I have local radio stations preset).  This is distracting if I want to change radio station never mind annoying and whilst I asked my Dealer to look at the issue when in for a service recently the car was returned to me with no resolution.  Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this happening? Hope I have described this that it can be understood.

I don't use the radiovery often, but I've had a few problems with it. For a week or two now, every time my phone connects to the car, it opens the functions menu instead of Android Auto. At the same time, Sync sometimes shows an error when connecting to Android Auto or Bluetooth, and sometimes it disconnects and sometimes it doesn't.
It's frustrating how Ford manages to solve one problem and create another.

never looked but it would be cheaper not to fit a switch on the glove box - just set the car to shutdown the power when the keys been out longer than x

assuming people are stupid because you haven’t thought about the issue or done the maths is a mistake

my carplay interface is very jerky and not as smooth as it was before; the gps is always late and the maps when they run are not smooth at all... what has this update changed?

I am speechless...

  • 3 weeks later...

I just want to give an update on Sync 4.

I've just recently purchased a new Focus and the factory date is March 2025.

this is currently what new Ford Focuses are being released with.

As you can see, no new updates to what was released late last year.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a 2024 Focus and being away from Ford for a number of years I'm finding the different numbers etc quite confusing.

On the screen, 'About Sync' says I'm currently on 23191_PRODUCT, revision 946

The ford website says I'm on Sync version 4.0.23152.

Would someone be kind enough to help me decode this and let me know if I'm actually up to date please?

Thanks all

You should be on sv 24145 revision 1286 but before that I think you need 3 updates to the ford pass connect modem

Thanks for the info! Is the update to the modem something that will eventually just happen or is it something a dealer would need to do for me?

For reference, the Sync screen says there are no updates for the vehicle.
