The SIM cards in the Fords are permanent live and use Vodafone European service's. There U.K. sims from Vodafone global
So depending on where you are will depend on which network they use.

UK Vodafone
Vodafone Ireland
France SFR
Spain Vodafone
Vodafone Germany

https://www.vodafone.com/about-vodafone/where-we-operate

click on the EU and the country, it will take u to the partner website which will tell u the network in use

if your not sure, let me know

and so on.

sims are live and run to the Ford servers. Ford system advises what the sim does, so you pay for traffic, that part of the server is activated, u pay for hotspot, then that service is switched on.

the following is active all the time,

System updates, communication with Ford, map updates, module updates, Ford assistance

I'm on 6.4.0, so just waiting for the last update that hopefully fixes everything.

Mine was fine until 4.2.2 update so you're probably lucky!

The strange thing is that my car shows just the ”update is being downloaded” message. No info on the update like shown here by different users.

Hope it downloads and installs properly anyway.

I’m having huge battery issues lately. Even if I have the car on for over 25 minutes it can show a message for battery saving mode directly turning it off. I got a new battery installed a year ago and for 6 months everything worked perfectly, including start stop. Slowly it started degrading in june, with start stop going first, then one message of battery saving in july, got a few more in august and september. Then in early october after a long trip abroad, driving for 4 hours straight, I got a battery saving message the day after I got home. These messages and the lightning and keyless have been acting more and more since then. I have an appointment at Ford on the 9th of december so hopefully it will be fixed then. I’m guessing I will have problems with the update until the battery issue is fixed. Sucks!

thanks nice info - I had a look - he said it was first sold in to Poland - this isn't on the vodafone list...

Germany, Czech republic, Ukraine, Hungry, Romania, etc.  no coverage listed in Poland - so is this his issue - thus can you buy a SIM for the market the car resides in now ?

But my SIM must be working, otherwise I would not be able to use live traffic or FordPass features.

But I checked FORScan today and my battery does not charge above 69% BAT_ST_CHRG during a 2 hr+ drive. Might it be related to battery state?

so go for a longer drive / get a new battery / harass dealership under warranty...

Poland is def covered. Plus is the mobile network used by Ford in your car

these are the countries covered by Ford as well

I’ll update with a list of networks covered by Ford in eu over the weekend sometime

esims are physically built into the system, there are no sim slots, it’s built directly into the car chipset

I have a list of the Mobile networks Ford uses in EU.

Ill update here tomorrow or sometime over the weekend with the list.

I have a UK ST model assembled April 2023 and received May 2023, got 6.4.0 over three weeks ago on 6th Nov but still no sign of the SYNC4 priority update. Seems most UK members with '23 plates are getting them now, so wonder why I am not? 4G signal is fine on the car and I have not got any low battery warnings or anything like that.

Same here, I have an st line vignale with 6.4.0 being my last update on the 30th October, hoping I get the latest update soon although I did get a battery saving mode alert yesterday so it probably won’t update, I might go for a long drive and see if it will start downloading 🤞

I'm in the same boat as you, 6.4.0 received on 30th October. ST Line Vignale too. No battery alerts for me.

Do you have an update schedule for downloads 🤔 I’m wondering if this makes any difference as I have mon/wed/fri at 01:00 but I can’t pickup WiFi outside my house so I presume my updates are done by the installed sim

Hi, yes mine checks at 01.00 every day.

The battery SOC has to be at least 70% before the update will begin.

Keep the battery on constant charge while parked over night for the next few nights and it will most likely update.

Not possible for me unfortunately, my car is parked away from my house

That is a problem. Sorry I often forget that not everyone has off street parking.

The only thing I can suggest is to remove the battery and charge it for at least 12 hours (more if possible). When you refit it then do the one thing that I always tell everyone not to do, (but this is a special case), reset the BMS. The car will for at least 24, possibly 48 hours believe the battery SOC to be more than 80% and so your update will probably begin.

Hey. I'm from Poland, 4 days ago I received the new 24xxx update. To speed up the download, I have provided a hot spot on my phone. Overall, I'm satisfied, sync works better. I have the impression that ACC also reacts differently. So far, the telephone connection is not disconnected.

So for those not getting the update who in theory should be getting it, but aren't able to keep the car plugged in overnight, will a long drive be worth a try to trigger the download?

This is what I was wondering 🤔

Had 6.4.0 update on 31st Oct.  Still waiting for sync update.

Had an email from Ford last week which said :

I have spoken with the technical team on why the update may not have come through to your vehicle as of yet, and they have advised that the battery in your vehicle is currently in a low state of charge, as the vehicle requires the battery to be above 75% to be able to carry out updates over the air.
If you are able to do a bit of a longer drive to get the battery charged up a bit this might resolve the issue with the update not coming through

I have done one journey for 1.5 hours and a second one for one hour.  No update yet.
I do not get the battery low alert.  I'm hoping my update has not been scheduled yet.

Thanks Darren,  DazUK for update info.

From what the various experts on here have said over many months it's clear the only way to guarantee a good state of charge is to put the battery on a charger for 12 hours or so. The modern battery management has been designed to minimise engine loading to comply with emission regulations and this means it puts the very minimum charge into the battery that the designers feel they can get away with. It seems, from what has been said, that it only charges when the engine is very lightly loaded, for example when decelerating or descending a hill.

If you decide to use a charger do it in situ on the car and be sure to connect the negative lead to a chassis ground point. This ensures the charging current passes through the BMS sensor so that it registers the state of charge.

If you're unable to charge it on the car then take the advice of @unofix posted earlier.

For those thinking of charging the battery by "going on a long drive", please be aware you will need to drive to the moon and back whilst not using any electrical equipment. If you're very lucky on the home down hill trip you might just get the battery to 80%.

Of course this won't work for our Australian members because it will be an uphill journey for them 🤣

Well I can share my experience as I’m currently having major issues with the battery and I’m getting pretty much daily battery savings messages.

I have had the ”update is downloading” message in SYNC for several days. But having the car going into battery saving mode almost every day. So I thought I may never get the update installed. My battery probably down to 50-60% because my lights would go out, keyless would behave and the sync screen sometimes behave. So I decided to go for two lengthy drives, one 45 min and one 1 hour long. This seemed to fix it for me. I got the update installed on 29 november. Btw I had the 6.4 installed on 30 october.

Edit: The trips was with heating on, including seat and steering wheel, and no special energy saving ”setting”. Simply driving as usual. We have a somewhat chilly weather here in Sweden now, flexing between +8 and -6 depending on day and time. So the heating is working pretty hard.
