Maps/Sat Nav issue after Sync 4 OTA Update

My car's specific handbook shows this option, how to enable it, and how it works (or should do it). On the Ford website you can look for the complete handbook (all markets) or you can search for your own with the VIN.

Hi all.

I’ve  had confirmation back from Ford UK

Confirmation that there are 4 updates for the Ford Focus Sync 4 unit

The first set of updates are:
6.1.0, 6.2.0, 6.4.0

These are are all module updates have to be done in order and when each update is complete, it will send a command of completion back to Ford.

The 4th and final update may come in parts and will install fully when complete.

The 4th and final update is the Sync unit it self and as previously mentioned should resolve all the issues.

The updates are set to come 14-21 days apart and will be sent to the car accordingly.

if the update hasn't been released for ur car then taking the car to the garage will not be able to update it as well. As the update is released via the VIN number and nothing to do with Sync.

All updates are VIN dependant and are rolling out in the countries needing the update in batches.
Some are coming quicker than others.

If you are in older 4.2.1-4.2.4 and bit had any updates, if you would like he updates, first check that the system updates are on and all the ticks saying you are happy to share data with Ford.
Also the battery has to be in a good state of charge.
You will need to be In a good 4G area or connected to WiFi.

does your buttons look like this on your steering wheel as this is adaptive and intelligent cruise control.

They do. They're almost the same. The only difference is the middle left button in mine is CANCEL. I guess yours is lane assist? Mine is in the blinker lever.

At the dealer they've told me they have to check it, because OBVIOUSLY it is not working

If you have 1x big CAN button then you do not have adaptive cruise control, just regular cruise. (Sorry 😐)

I do have the adaptative cruise control and it works. It shows an error when I switch to the intelligent adaptative cruise control. The CAN button is not a big one. 😅

so what does the round button do - this is likely why that features doesn't work ?

That’s Lane assist.
allows the car to steer with in the lanes and assists you where needed.

This may be a daft question but do you have or pay for speed sign recognition In Your country.

not all countries I believe support it.

the info below is from Ford direct

Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control combines Speed Sign Recognition with Adaptive Cruise Control to adjust the cruise set speed to the speed limit detected by the speed sign recognition system. For example, if the Speed Sign Recognition system detects a 50 mph speed limit, the cruise set speed is updated to 50 mph.

I do. I have every assistant available when I bought it. The one I don't have is that lane steering assist because it was not an option for the Focus.

You can pay for that? It doesn't require any connected services does it?

The only connected service I can pay for is live traffic, although I don't know why anyone would when Android Auto / Apple CarPlay gets you Google Maps on the screen for free. I have Sync 3 though.

@Daz-UK

You get this Automatic Steering Assist only for automatic transmission.

Otherwise you‘ll have only the Lane Keeping.

not all countries use the exact same signage

if a particular country has speed limit signs of more than one design, differences in size or fonts all making it hard to read - the tech would not be available for that market

of course you pay for it - nothing is free - is an option, what manufacturer would not charge for it ?

how do these fall asleep and let the car drive systems cope with the super dangerous rules some foreign countries still have

like out in the sticks in Belgium, where a hidden farm track has right of way on to a wide country road, (that would be 60mph limit in UK) ?

Perhaps I misinterpreted then. I thought it was being suggested that you can pay a subscription for it in some countries. Like with live traffic.

Now the lane and blind spot assistants work as they should. I can't tell if the emergency brake assist works. The system is also smooth and has some animations I haven't seen before.

However, the IACC still shows an error in the cluster when I try to activate it and the dealer keeps telling me my car doesn't have it, because there's no Focus with it (I can change its settings on the screen though).

I still can't enter navigation from the cluster...

Apart from those two things everything works very well.

Maybe some of you have already had this update or can tell your dealers about it.

And did you do anything special for this, I mean, if I go to the dealer, they can do the same to my car? I can not wait to get my hands on this update.

The thing that annoys me now is a strange sound that occurs when the car is cold and I start to move it. It lasts for only about a minute or less and happens when I release the clutch in 1st gear. It’s an intermittent whistle, similar to the sound of worn brake pads. I know this isn't related to the topic, but maybe someone here has experienced it. It’s frustrating that, just as it seemed like the other problem (software) has now finally a solution, I now have to worry about this new sound! I just can't be at peace with this car. 😠

Nothing special. I went to the dealer because they wanted to "check" it because I was being very annoying with all my complaints.

As soon as they plugged in the diagnosis the update popped up. That's what they told me.

I think @Al1966 said it depends on the VIN when the update will be available.

That also happens to me, only when it's cold and for a few seconds when I go backwards maneuvering.

It annoys me, but I didn't think it was a problem 😅

BMW and VAG have gone this route - I wouldn't be surprised if Ford wake up - simple money spinner - rob for ever more the idiots who didn't buy it outright when new

Just to remind you.

Updates are done on your VIN number.  If Ford in your country has not loaded the vin into the system for the update, taking the car to the garage will not show the update.

OTA gets the updates first from what I was told.

I had update 6.2.0 when my car went into the garage for a service, they checked and even said, No updates pending, the system is showing green ticks on everything.
The garage confirmed that they see updates when loaded into the system, and can reinstall the same software what’s showing only.

Ford tech tea, also confirmed, that my car was up to date and waiting for next OTA to be distributed.

They mentioned for me, it may be end November, early December for my last update. But it could also come sooner. It just all depends how there doing it

This noise?

are you talking about when your coming to a halt or just setting of, like u mention a brake pad pedal noise like it’s squeak grabbing?

if that’s the noise, it’s normal in hybrids engine cars. It’s the self charging regenerative braking system.

im hoping that’s the noise your talking about.

Good morning everyone,

I contacted my support agent at Ford Customer Service Germany this morning and informed them of the remaining problems. I also gave him the hint that there is a forum on the Internet where many customers exchange ideas about this problem and are of course upset.

He wants to get in touch tomorrow after consulting with the IT department.

Greetings to all!

Oh good luck,

The more people speak to Ford, the more pressure it adds to it.
Let us know how it goes and good luck.

My support agent just replied by email that she is still waiting for the feedback from the IT department, but would contact me immediately as soon as she has more information. Have a nice day!
