Maps/Sat Nav issue after Sync 4 OTA Update

Featured Replies

Btw after the update I have driven two short trips and two little bit longer and have not noticed any issues with the maps. I have had it on view all the time.

Although smoother UI than before I wouldn’t call it silky smooth as some previous poster suggested. I’m guessing the hardware in these SYNC 4 units are lacking compared to the 4A Mach-e version. IMO we will never have super fast silky smooth UI like some other manufacturers have nowadays.

Thanks all for the battery information, much appreciated.

It looks like I'll have to go out and purchase a decent battery charger.

For those thinking of charging the battery by "going on a long drive", please be aware you will need to drive to the moon and back whilst not using any electrical equipment. If your very lucky on the home down hill trip you might just get the battery to 80%.

Of course this won't work for our Australian members because it will be an uphill journey for them 🤣

How does one check the exact battery level even?

You can get an accurate measurement of the State Of Charge by using a digital multimeter.

After the vehicle has been parked for about one hour, the voltage directly across the battery terminals should be measured and compared against the attached table below.

HOWEVER !!

When the vehicle is parked you need to leave it with the bonnet open, and unlocked so that you can access the battery without opening any doors or doing anything that may cause it to "wake-up". This means that you must keep the car key well away from the vehicle so that it can not detect it.

An alternative method to determine the State Of Charge would be to use the diagnostics software 'FORScan' either the mobile phone version or the Windows laptop version.

See an attached example of my own car below using the Android phone version of FORScan.

I took my car for a drive at least 2 hours all on the M62, no update started to download, maybe it’s a case of just being patient 🤷‍♀️

I guess so. Some get it early, others next year 🤡

I got 6.4.0 on 08.10.2024 - but no sign of an Update currently. And I drive about 4000km per month currently - so it should have enough time to download. 😉

Same here ( MY22.5 Poland ) .. already on 6.4.0 for weeks... state of charge >90%... WiFi connected and no signs of Sync prio update

How do you check state of charge 🤔

using Forscan

I guess you didn't read my replies just above these posts 🙄 🙁

Have you just charged the battery, or have you adjusted the SOC of your cars system ?

Which OBD do you use for this app? I bought a bluetooth one off eBay a while ago and could never get it to connect.

Yes, battery connected to charger. Without it SoC was 66%

VLinker USB from VGate - that one allowed me to change as well  battery charge level to 90%.

Same time I've notice that light in my locker/storage ( in front of passenger seat) inside cabin was never switching off ( someone on forum had same issue ) after fixing  this, battery last for longer period but still ***** ( maybe it's already drained as I've discovered that issue 2 years after buying this car as brand new...)

There are 3 different ones made by vLinker, see post below for details.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

If your VIN hasn’t been dealt the download you can drive forever without making anything go faster. When you have an update pending you will see it in the SYNC download page. It will say downloading update. Then you can go for longer drives to accelerate the download and install.

I also noticed this a few weeks ago, but I haven't had any battery problems that I'm aware of. Maybe my battery level was always low to update, but the dealer did it for me.

Anyway, when you lock the car all the lights go out, including this one (it should), so I don't think it's a big problem, rather than it being on when you're driving.

By the way, is anyone with the latest update having any issue? I'm still waiting for the IACC and instrument cluster nav to be fixed

Thanks pal 👍🏻

My car finally have started to download SYNC Prio update ... so far 20 minutes under fast WiFi connection and still " downloading ".. wondering if it will download in background when engine is shut down and car locked - only connected to battery charger ?

Update has started downloading for me too, nearly a full year since I started this thread!

Hi all.

this review is really important if you are getting ready for the last update to the Sync unit.

it will explain everything in what is going to happen.

its a long update, but it is extremely important to read

You must have had Software Module updates first which is Sync Version, 6.1.0, then 6.2.0 will download and install, then and 6.4.0 will install next.

Only when the last update is installed (6.4.0) you will eventually get the below

You updates may not come straight away as you VIN is loaded in batches by Ford

from
Sync Software Version
23159 ➡️ 24145

Revision
915 ➡️ 1286

Good
1) No Map freezing
2) No Garbled Bings
3) No Dropped Calls
4) Smoother Animation
5) Home page now shows network signal if phone has Apple Car play

Changes
1) battery Icon no longer shown as per image if connected via Apple Car Play

How it Installed.
4 Boots of the system in total
On starting the car this afternoon the car did the following.

1st Boot.

This showed the Ford Logo and then the whole screen went completely off (Dead) for 10-15 Mins
(I was worried think the system had completely failed)
(Do not do anything, touch anything, or turn the car off etc, the 1st part of the update is installing in the back ground) (You have to be patient)

2nd Boot. The car will boot up automatically after it has installed the first update.
The Ford Logo will suddenly appear and boot Sync Up.
You will notice
Maps may not work and say updating / Loading
Intelligent Cruise/Cruise control / Speed sign recognition will malfunction and advise it’s not available.

(Don’t Panic)
If you’re at this point, allow 5 to 10 Mins for the 2nd part of the update to install.
I had to switch of the car, lock it and allow to go to sleep (Allow a few mins for the car to shut down and the Sync 4 unit go to sleep.

3rd Boot on starting the car, Maps, Cruise Control, Speed sign recognition came back online.
A further 5 - 10 Mins passed and I received a message that the software was successfully installed
I still noticed a little sluggish using the system, but this can be normal after a brand new version of software is installed. So I turned the car off, locked it and went in for some food.

4th Boot
After some food and leaving the car for a few hours, On this boot, Sync 4 booted up as normal and was running very smooth and everything loading, working fine.

I’ve not noticed and new menus, animations or anything. Just a system that works and feels much better.

I wouldn't say it feels polished finished, but it’s 100 times better that what we had.

Now this is my experience and you may or may not get the same as me.
But I wanted to share it so if you do, you will know what to expect.

Pictures are added on page 16 and also the Software Version and Navigation Version in maps.

the review was placed original on page 16

If any one has any questions, please let me know and good luck 🤞

I know lots of people are asking the questions and don’t really want to read through the whole forum.

As prev mentioned,

Battery needs to be in a high state of charge
You need to be either connected to 4G or WiFi
The updates are VIN dependant. They are loaded in batches weekly by Ford.

If your car is in a low state of battery or not connected to 4G or WiFi. Then the Sync system will reject the forced updated from Ford.

Note. The Ford server will keep trying over many weeks.

Question to those who already have Prio Update - how long it was downloading update in your case ? I know it may vary depends on network /WiFi speed but are we taking about minutes , hours , days ?

Today I've kept my car with with running engine connected to WiFi for one hour ... And still update is  downloading .

I've check on my router if Focus is downloading something ... And actually nothing - no network traffic. So wondering if this particular update is using WiFi at all.

Mine has just started downloading, I’m in a pretty good 4g area but don’t know how long it’ll take
