Things I Don't Like

I like glasses direct however for me, I don't like my prescription is too strong for them to dispense... Sadly it would save me about half the cost of my specs from specsavers

Contacts are way less annoying than glasses IMO. Glasses get dusty, greasy, and dirty so easily. It's a real pain to keep cleaning them with tissues every few hours. They also fog up, fall off your nose, and become wet in the rain. And you have significantly reduced peripheral vision too.

I keep hearing all the horror stories of people getting infections and becoming blind, but if Clive has been doing it for 26 years without any problems, then it must be safe ^_^

That may be case with the cheaper glass lenses, but I can't say apart from the issue with rain, in the 45 years, I've been wearing glasses, that I've had any other your feared problems with them. And that's really an issue, once you've been rained on for while, it runs off and you can see again.

I clean mine once a day with a microfibre cloth, upon awakening, they remain clean all day; no faffing about with bi-hourly cleaning tissues. That may be because I have anti-static and non-stick coatings on my polycarbonate lenses. Fogging up is a foreign country to me, unless I stick my head in the vapour from a boiling kettle. :P

Well made frames don't slide down your nose! Perhaps cheap ones unisex, one size fits all, do: but I've never bought those.

Whilst, in theory at least, you less peripheral vision, it's noticeable enough to cause any problems, the extremities are visible, albeit not in great clarity, but visible nonetheless.

Contacts suit some but not others. Alex and Clive it suits.

It's the poking my eye I don't like, it's bad enough if something gets in there accidently. To choose to poke both your eyes at least twice a day, which puts me right off.

However, I would be open to lens replacement surgery, where they remove your faulty lens and replace it with a perfect one. In a procedure, not that dissimilar to a cataract operation. But that's currently at £3-4K per eye, so I'll wait until the price drops a bit. :)

I don't buy my glasses from a dispenser: I take my prescription to an optical laboratory (who make the glasses for the dispensers), cut out the middlemen and save, on average around £500 per pair :)

Back on the moan train....I don't like checking the in laws thermometer inside the house to see that it is 11 degrees INSIDE the house ¬_¬...

Also I don't like it when small minded people reassure my wifes lack of confidence about some things...

Wife mentions how she'd struggle to drive a van... and instead of being a responsible parent and letting your kids know they can do anything they want... a parent turns round and says "well vans are big and.."

I butted in and said "you can do it, it's just a case of being careful, I'll sit with you"....

Then there is another comment:

"well, yes but you don't want to find yourself in a situation where..."

I butted in once again, this time losing my calm a bit:

"there is no pointed in knocking someones confidence, anyone can try anything and driving a van is simple, it's just a case of being calm and careful"

I hate it when people pass across their own insecurities and worries onto others. I am all for empathising, however there seems to be a common trend of answering "well you don't need to do that".. when the wife wishes she could do something....

My view is that anyone can do anything (within reason) if they want and if they want to, I'd do what I could to aid them, not right them off and make them feel that they don't need to do something that they WANT to!

I need a drink!

You should be a Life Coach Ian, you CAN do it!

Things i dont like - Having my posts removed without an explanation or chance to edit it! It was clean-ish.... for me anyway!

It was only a play on words already posted by someone else but in a slightly different context!;)

I don't like dirty birds, having just been shat on by one. <_< Supposed to be lucky though so we'll see how that pans out...

Just to confirm - the type with feathers and wings, right?!

Bloke I used to work with.. his dream/fetish was a woman to dress up as a traffic warden or lollipop lady and piddle on him. His wife point blank refused hahaha

On my last ship, the XO was well known for having a large collection of err...adult viewing material.

He was telling us (me and the other cadet) that he sailed with an old, quite posh logistics officer once. He wandered into the cabin, sat down and asked the then 2nd Off "Do you have any !Removed!?" reply of yes..."Do you have any pi...eeing?" That was one of the few things he didn't have...

That annoys me too!! I've had it with the parents of my Cadets!!

Recent case - I took a crew of Junior Cadets out rowing (all 10-11 years old). For most of them, it was their first time. One girl was scared of the boat and of the water (she is a lovely little kid, and usually will have a crack at anything!)

After about 10 minutes I managed to convince her to not only get in the boat, but start rowing and out into the dock.

Her Mum popped down to drop off her packed lunch and see how her daughter was getting off.

I didn't hear the conversation, but the cadet refused to get back in the boat.

Again, I have managed to convince her there's nothing to be afraid of, and she has a real knack for rowing. Unfortunately, if she sees her Mum she panics again!

It's not just with the rowing, but so many things. It's really upsetting - like I said, she's a lovely kid - cheerful, eager and an absolute pleasure to teach...

Anywhoo...now that I'm the Training Officer, I can tailor the training programme to benefit my favourite cadets (which also happens to be all of them!! They're a crackin' bunch!!)

You should be a Life Coach Ian, you CAN do it!

Well, if IIIII can do it, then my wife can do it. Also I don't like restrictions being put on people I care about, especially stupid non existent pointless restrictions!

Like I said, everything is within reason, but everything requires at least 1 step in the right direction and if your life is forever negative or surrounded by negative, 'i can't be bothered' people then you'll never make those steps unless there is at least one solid person forever pushing or pulling you. What I don't like is that it seems on many occasions that the people that should have been doing that job before I came along are not all that great at doing it!

You will get removed SeanW, my post removed was about the dirty bird!

EXACTLY, when you KNOW someone has it in them, yet they're constantly being told that they either don't need to, or "Well, I wouldn't do that" if it's something scary... it just grates me...

I mean, I HATE spiders, but whenever my nieces or nephews are around, if we see one I bottle my panic up and do a lovely little "oh, lets just move Mr Incy Wincy outside shall we".... when inside I'm more like "SOMEONE DESTROY THAT ********* DEMON!"...

My wife really wanted to get into the gym to tone up (and she succeeded) but during her struggles of confidence to join gyms etc her mum seemed to think it was a good idea saying "well don't worry, you don't need to join a gym or trim or anything, I don't".... I was astounded... I was literally thinking... yes, you don't which is why you're not in the greatest physical fitness spectrum... Your daughter JUST told you that she is struggling with confidence and wants to go, and you just tell her that she should just ignore it....

I know what you mean. It's like telling an alcoholic "well, if you really want a drink then I suppose that is OK".

Absolutely useless "advice" that helps nobody except the person giving it feel better about their own inadequacies.

Jesus God! What kind of glasses are you buying, solid gold? :o

About the lightest varifoculs (in weight) with various special coatings: the RS/ST of glasses, essentially. :)

Although not with reactolite as it doesn't work in the car, which defeats the object really; I have a separate pair of prescription varifocul sunglasses for sunny/bright days

If bought off a dispensing optician/dispenser they'd cost me around £750-800 each

On the subject of widdling on people.... I've got no idea why people are into this...

I've pee'd on a few people in my years... although all tend to be some kind of drunken a-holery...

I was in a cubicle at a place for our rugby club dinner when a friend who was in the next cubicle threw some loo roll over while I was mid wee.... so I turned my spray onto his shoes which I could see..

Another midstream time I for some reason (I think he tried to squeeze in to a space when there was no real room) decided to turn to a friends leg whilst on a night out... catastrophically calculated however, as he was also mid stream, so we both ended up with soaked legs... (animals I guess)...

...there are more occasions of varying sorts... I personally can't say any of them was ever 'pleasurable' in that kind of way though.. - pretty damn funny though!

indeed, within the general tomfoolery of a drunken night out it's quite "normal", a bit of a laugh type of thing, on a par with pulling down another's boxers, or stealing their clothes, when they're showering

At no time, I would have thought, is it being for sexual gratification, in that context.

However, I do wonder, how someone discovers they like being poo'd/pee'd upon  Mind you, there a lot of fetishes, that also make me wonder "how did you discover, that you liked that?"

Well that puts my £25 into perspective

Well, if they do what you require and are suited to what you want from a pair, £25 is good price :)

You will get removed SeanW, my post removed was about the dirty bird!

:innocent: :D

Come to think of it, I have been pee'd on indirectly.......when Brandy had her bladder infection - I woke up in, what seemed like a lake of it :o

That was neither pleasing, nor particularly funny

The duvet and futon had to be sent away to be professionally cleaned, several times.

Well, if they do what you require and are suited to what you want from a pair, £25 is good price :)

Indeed, and considering they will be left sitting in the car whenever not on my head I don't want to spend a lot of money.

Wes, clean-ish still isn't forum appropriate fella.

Whereas, I spend longer wearing mine: than I wear underwear or have had hot dinners.

I do not like having spent the best part of an hour trying get a dropbox link to work, five different browsers, full permissions on each: still no joy :(

I even joined dropbox, in case that would work, and I could browse to the file.

No, I can only see the contents of my newly created dropbox account, not access the link :(

I'll have email the seller and tell him his link won't work for me, it would be better in Spanish, or is it Portuguese? (he's Venezuelan) but I speak/write neither

I don't like forgetting which forum I'm on and writing posts in a way that provokes others getting replies removed. Sorry Wes. :P Just to confirm, it was an actual feathered bird in my case lol...

Sure the thermometer worked? I had no heating in my bedroom 2 years ago and the coldest that dropped to first thing in the morning was 13c...got used to it tbf, thats what duvets are for lol and it warmed up during the day anyway. Now I'm paying about £20 a month for storage heat in my living/bed room. :(

I could do with someone like you around though, probably comes across on here that I'm quite a negative person, but that comes from people (mostly family members!) putting me down all the time. Whats the point...? Why bother...? That'll be a waste of money... It won't work... Now I just assume I can't do something before even trying it!! My Dads a great one for thinking he's helping using 'scare tactics', when the fact is if you're already scared of doing something (and scared of the consequences of not doing it) scare tactics just makes the whole situation worse. <_<

Ha ha, yeah you, getting me into trouble!
